Fennel is usually grown either for its beautiful frond-like foliage or for its culinary uses but if allowed to flower it is also very attractive to a wide range of small pollinators including bees, hoverflies and some solitary wasps. Once it has flowered you also get the fennel seeds to use in cooking.

Tall, up to 6ft/2m, but easy to place anywhere in a border because its loose structure allows light through. The foliage of this one is a lovely coppery colour
